Innovative Technologies In Teaching And Learning

Final Blog Post

1) What have you learned throughout this course?

What I have learned throughout after taking this course is I have learned many new things, for example, I learned a few techniques for using Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and a few more apps. I know that what I learned from this course, I will be able to keep with me and use throughout my entire life. I think that this course has helped me develop my computer writing skills and also my online organization. Once again, I will be able to take these learned skills with me, wherever I go in my life, and computers and technology are expanding and growing. It was a very fun semester, with a great class, and I am looking forward to all my education courses next year!

2) What do you like the most about the course and what areas that you think can be improved?

The thing I loved most about this course was when I learned about some of the techniques of using Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. So the reason why I love it is that it helps me when using the app, which means I know about the features available in the app that I can use to complete tasks in a short time. Also, using the techniques I learned on how to use PowerPoint, helped me in producing an interesting slide. With that, I was able to conduct the presentation better. So, in my opinion, this course is very helpful to me and no improvements need to be made.

3) Your honest opinion on the integration of technology in education

In my opinion, the integration of technology in education is very important. This is because nowadays the use of technology in education is used more widely. By using technology, it helps in providing an attractive classroom environment. By using the technology in the classroom it can help to turn traditionally classroom into interactive and fun activities. Furthermore, the integration of technology in education also helps in producing IT -sensitive students where it is also important not only in education but also in future employment.

Flipped Classroom - You Tube

Back in the day, we have been introduced to the traditional classroom where teacher giving their lecture in the class and the student continued developing their knowledge outside the class. Traditional classroom models may be bleak because they focus more on the delivery of knowledge than interactions with students which causes students to tend not to focus in class. However, a new learning strategy has been introduced which is known as the flipped classroom. The flipped classroom is different from the traditional classroom which the student is learning outside of the class from a recorded video and the classroom is used for discussion and activities. For this blog, I will tell you about my favorite flipped classroom tool and its advantages.

My favorite flipped classroom that I have been used is YouTube. YouTube is a free video-sharing website that makes it easy to watch online videos. This feature can help in the teaching and learning process because the teacher can upload their live stream or record of teaching and share it with their students. From that, the student can watch the video before the class started and they can have a discussion with their teacher in the class.

Next, on YouTube, many channels provide videos about education. Moreover, videos on YouTube usually show in an animation which can help the student to learn more deeply about a subject being studied. Animated educational videos enhance creativity in learners and motivate them to explore the knowledge. Besides, students can also replay the video so they can review what they have learned. From that, it allows the student to study at their own pace which can help them to perform better in class and also in the examination.

With the availability of YouTube, learning outside the classroom can be carried out and at the same time, it allows the class to be a place for teachers to interact with students to discuss what they have learned. Interactions and activities carried out in the classroom can help teachers to track students' level of understanding of something they are learning. With that, the teacher can take action to help students who are still weak in a subject being studied.

Prezi vs Powerpoint

 PREZI - https://prezi.com/view/6SHY7FioOuhaeew4CIP6/

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF PREZI AND POWER POINT

PREZI

Advantage

Prezi is a presentation app known mostly for its style of zoom navigation and a “slide less” design. Zoom navigation is a feature in Prezi which it can help the creator to organize their slide and at the same time, it also makes the presentation unique and more interesting. Moreover, Prezi video is a feature that allows the creator to put a video of you live stream or record alongside your content. It helps the presenter to more engage with the audience if compared to PowerPoint. Lastly is the use of Prezi is more economical especially for students because there has a free version for students that need the bare necessities for their projects without too much fanfare. Paid plans start as low as $3/month.

Disadvantage

The disadvantage of Prezi is frequent zooming in and out movement can be a bit overwhelming for some and might irritate the audience. Also, a Prezi presentation shared on its own can be confusing if the viewer doesn’t know how to navigate the functions. Besides, Prezi provides offline access for the paid subscription only. Prezi can only be used with an internet connection and also slow internet speeds can make a Prezi almost impossible to navigate. Online hosting can sometimes cause the platform to move slower than alternatives. This will disrupt the process of use, especially for students who have internet problems. Next, the disadvantage of Prezi is less variation of a template. Lack of template variation can interfere with the flexibility of work to hit the target.

POWER POINT

Advantage

Microsoft PowerPoint is the presentation software in the Microsoft Office Suite. The advantage of PowerPoint is it provides basic features that are easy to master and can make it appear to be organized. From that, the creator can create their slide base on their creativity. The second advantage of PowerPoint is the rich features for using multimedia in presentations. To create an interesting and engaging presentation, the creator can add video, audio, voice-over, and animations to keep viewers interested and engaged. These features help add a good dose of visual impact to presentations. Next, PowerPoint provides plenty of templates. Thematic templates were an excellent idea because they would save a lot of work time. It is because the users just only need to fill in the blank of the template they use.

Disadvantage

The advantage of PowerPoint is it can lead to boring presentations. This because the users usually dumping all of the information on the audience instead of serving and engaging the audience. From that the audience difficult to focus and more likely to do other things. Furthermore, the disadvantage of PowerPoint is compatibility issues which the newer version of PowerPoint could not be open on older computers. Lastly, PowerPoint is the ongoing cost of the Microsoft 365 Office Suite. Users can obtain PowerPoint on their own but the cost is high which they need to pay it monthly.

Technology In Learning

Technology in learning

In these pandemic times, technological advancements have deeply influenced education. The technology used in education as a distance learning is a precaution and government effort in reducing the spread of life-threatening covid19 epidemics. Mobile devices, computers, and other technological wonders are now being used in the classroom. The technology that is used for learning purpose is called Learning technology which it acts as a broad range of communication, information and related technologies that are used to support learning, teaching, and assessment. So for this blog, I’m going to explain the advantages and disadvantages of one learning technology which is Google Meet.

The advantage of Google Meet is, it is more economical especially for students where it provides a free site that can be browsed by all google users. Thus, students can carry out their learning process without having to spend money. Besides, the use of google meet which is based on E-learning and online learning provides an easy way to access it which is the student and teacher can download the app or they can just browse it online and at the same time, they also can join from any device. Next, google meet also provide a feature meeting recording, chat, screen sharing, audio conferencing, and event live streaming. This will make the teaching and learning process can be implemented using synchronous and asynchronous delivery.

The disadvantage of google meet is, there is a limitation that only allows 150 people to join a class at a time. This means that the learning process can only be done in small groups. Google meet provides a large number of participants access for the paid subscription only. Other than that, it uses a large amount of internet connection. Because of that, slow internet speeds can make a google meet almost impossible to navigate. Lastly, the student has difficulty focusing in the class and more likely to do other things. This is because the use of the internet encourages students to browse things like social media and others that cause them to lose focus in class.

Way Of Teaching And Learning

This week, our group has chosen the way of learning through e-learning and also Online learning. E-Learning stands for Electronic Learning meaning that it is a learning system based on formal teaching but with the help of electronic resources while Online learning only uses online media or the internet in learning. The reason why we use this way of learning is that it is one of the most frequently used methods after a pandemic and it has become a new normal in the learning process with which the whole country began to use it. Besides, this way of learning is also more effective which is more freedom that allows the student to study at their own time and study anywhere, with no restriction on areas and at the same time they still can remain in contact with their teacher.

Method of instruction

Online learning and e-learning

Online learning and e-learning are used because schools are temporarily closed due to Covid-19 pandemic. Students are having online distance learning (odl) at home.

Technology

Google meet

  • The teacher and the students make the live lessons
  • Two way-learning can be achieved (teacher can ask student question regarding to the lessons topic and student can ask teacher to be more understand)
  • For the best result, the internet connection should be strong
  • The teacher records the meeting
  • The purpose is to give the student who has the internet problem during the live lessons to watch it again when the internet connection is stable enough.
  • The teacher can also watch it again and detect if the lessons have any misinformation or not.

Google classroom

  • Teacher can put the recorded lecture
  • Student can use it for study to face the examination
  • Give the opportunity to the students to be more understanding when they watch it again.
  • Teacher prepares the homework or assignment for the students
  • The teacher can set the due date for any assignment at the space that the students need to submit it.
  • Any kind of assignment are available to be submitted in this application such as videos, slides, reports and paperwork

Kahoot/quizizz/google form

  • Test the student understanding
  • The teacher needs to inform the student early to make them be more prepared for the quiz except for the pop quiz.
  • Teachers can detect which students are not mastered yet for any topic that had been taught.

Assessment

One-sentence summary

  • To demonstrate whether or not students are able to understand concepts .
  • Example : ask the question “Who? When? Does what? Where ? Why? How?”
  • Do this assessment with a discussion forum or in a group so that it can make the online environment fairly easy to engage students especially among the peers.

Set up a quiz and test

  • Set some essay question type and be available for 1-3 minutes
  • For example : “ what is the type of bacteriophage life cycle and explain the process”

Animation

i) “In your opinion, why do you think animation can help with students’ learning engagement?”.

In the modern age of education, there have various ways that can help with student learning engagement. The most widely used method is by using animation. By using animation, it can increase student interest in the learning process which it combining audio messages with tailored visual cues and graphics, to serve the dual functions of explaining complex concepts. Besides, using animation provide greater flexibility in self-directed learning and understanding. This is because the students can repeat the video at any time they want on parts they do not understand. Additionally, animated graphics are found to improve learning in various age groups, ranging from young children to high-school students. This is because interesting animation can keep the focus of students in the learning process and at the same time it also can increase the level of understanding of students.

ii) “Choose your favorite animation movie and talk about why the animation used in the movie captured your attention”

My favorite animation is ‘Raya and the last dragon’ which was a fantasy action-adventure film. This animation movie captured my attention because the animation graphic was so wonderful which it has 3D and colorful graphics. Besides, the voice used is suitable for the character in the movie and the background music makes the movie more interesting where it plays a major role in showing the situation of the story. Other than that, the animation makes it easy to understand the storyline which it was a story of a girl who wants to save her kingdom from dark magic by asking for help from the last dragon. From this movie I also can understand the value they want to convey to the audience which is a level of trust to others, efforts bring success and use kindness in solving problems.

Innovative technological tool that can be used for education to review.

A learning management system (LMS) is a software application or web-based technology used to plan, implement and assess a specific learning process. LMS is an eLearning-based institution that allows instructors and administrators to efficiently manage elements such as user registration, content, calendars, user access, communication, certifications, and notifications. LMS is used for knowledge which refers to gathering, organizing, sharing, and analysis of an organization's knowledge in terms of resources, documents, and people skills.

A feature that provides an LMS is it can organize eLearning content in one location. Therefore, we can store all of the learning material in one location instead of the material spread out over different hard drives and devices. Thus, it will provide the audience unlimited access to eLearning materials. Hence, the audience can log in whenever they want and can revise on the part that they are still bad on. Besides, LMS is very useful to the teacher because it has the ability to tracks learner progress and performance. From that, the teacher can help the student by giving supplemental resources to improve their performance.

Guidelines on getting started on the LMS:

Step 1: Put together your implementation team.

This will usually consist of a team leader, project manager, e-learning specialist, and system administrator.

Step 2: Spell out your goal.

Determine what to need to accomplish and understand what success looks like so you can know whether you have succeeded.

Step 3: Compile LMS requirements

Create a list of must-have capabilities to help inform and direct your effort.

Step 4: Create a strategy

This includes project scope, data migration, integration, your timeline, and the rollout approach you will take.

Step 5: Get your content in order

Consider an element such as a learning path, course structure, and format and whether you will use in-house or pre-built content.

Step 6: Test before you launch

Use a group of learners to give the system a trial run before your go-live date. This will help you catch and fix the error so users have the best experience possible.

Step 7: Ask for feedback.

Have a system in place for getting feedback on how you can improve the LMS.
